Osborne School pupils through to the County Football Finals

Key Stage 3 and 4 Football Tournament

Stewart Lang, Head of KS4

On Wednesday 11 November 2015 14 pupils across all years took part in a football tournament at Samuel Cody School. The tournament was a qualifier for the County Schools Championships in March 2016. The pupils played games against Samuel Cody, Mark Way, Dove House and Holywater School. The day consisted of a Key Stage 3 and a Key Stage 4 Tournament.

For the pupils in Key Stage 3 it was the first opportunity for many of them to play in a football tournament. They all worked really hard and worked well together as a team. They lost their first 3 games 2-0 and showed real improvement in the last game drawing 0-0, with Jamie Moore narrowly missing from distance.

The Key Stage 4 team have had the opportunity to play a number of tournaments over the past few years and there excellent teamwork and understanding shone throughout. Managed by Mr Bernard the boys started by winning their first game against Samuel Cody (1) 1-0.  With excellent link up play and pace from Luke Cole, Shea Calder and Sam Jameison they followed their first win with a comprehensive 5-0 win over Holywater. They continued to be very difficult to breakdown at the back with the defence being well marshalled by Tom Williams. They won their next two games 1-0 against Dove House and Samuel Cody (2) respectively.

Although unbeaten Osborne had to win their last game against Mark Way School to be guaranteed a place in the county finals. Mark Way went into an early lead with Osborne conceding their first goal of the tournament. Osborne responded quickly with Sam Jameison scoring after a good pass from Shea Calder. Shea and Sam combined again soon after with Sam scoring, what proved to be the winning goal. A special mention to Jay Purkiss for his outstanding defensive display in the final game.

Well done to all who took part.
