Rubik’s Cube shine at the Royal Albert Hall

“I never in my wildest dreams would ever had thought my children would be performing in the Royal Albert Hall and to see Ella there was a truly humbling experience” – Ella’s Mum

“A massive ‘Thank You!’ from Megan and myself to all involved in putting the performance together – it was amazing. You all achieved something very special and gave us life-long memories to cherish” – Megan’s Dad

No words do justice to how thrilling, memorable and exciting performing at The Royal Albert Hall was for the staff, pupils and their families. The school band ‘Rubik’s Cube’ won their place at the national ‘Music for Youth’ proms after their National Festival appearance in June. The band made the judges cry with their memorable and incredible performance, and this helped them secure their Royal Albert Hall slot.
A bus took 63 pupils, staff and family members up to London. The pupils were nervous (as were some staff) but this didn’t stop them performing to the highest level. The 23 pupils made the whole audience clap and join in, and stole the show. Rubik’s cube performed a medley of pop hits, ending on a rendition of ‘Tender’ by Blur.

Ode to Rubik’s Cube by Clare McErlean

Tuesday 24th of November,

a day Osborne School will always remember

Rubik’s Cube off to The Royal Albert Hall

And Oh didn’t we have a ball

To London on the coach

‘Look what I can see’

Students, staff and parents lead by the dedicated Mr D

Students in yellow, orange, red and blue

They knew they had something special to do

Singing and signing through soundcheck and lighting

The size of the venue a little bit frightening

But Rubik’s cube took it all in their stride

With parents and staff members bursting with pride

Rubik’s Cube members, some short, some tall

Took centre stage AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL

The lights were down, the waiting was no more

Then Rubik’s cube entered and took to the floor

A colourful, melodic, fantastic vision

Rubik’s cube went on a musical mission

They sang with every bit of their being

The sound and enthusiasm rose up to the ceiling

Something special happened right there

Torches shone

Hands in the air

Young people beaming, giving it their all

Rapturous applause filled The Royal Albert Hall

A wonderful day

Full of inspiration

It was clear Rubik’s cube are full of dedication

Memories made

A phenomenal scene

  5. I travelled down to the Albert Hall to be in the audience because my niece was performing with musicians from Kirklees. Your performance blew me away! The sheer joy and enthusiasm conveyed had tears streaming down my cheeks. Myself, my brother and my parents (and all the audience around us) loved your performance! Congratulations and well done to all singers and staff.
