Year 11 Work Experience – The Watercress Line
The British summer weather might have let us down today but the Watercress Line staff and volunteers certainly didn’t. We met Dave Deane from the Watercress Line and also Michael Matthews, an old Osbornian, who was pleased to meet up with Nicole, a member of staff who worked with him at school.
Our work experience students had a great experience today with a tour of Ropley works and station and a visit from the steam train! We learned about all the different jobs undertaken mostly by volunteers to keep the station and works running and in tip top condition. We went into the Works where carriages are repaired and rebuilt to carry tourists on the Watercress Line. We looked at all the trains and learned about how old they were and the history of Ropley station. We also managed to get a picture of Dami in yet another kind of hat! Despite the rain we all had a fantastic time and would like to thank Dave Deane in particular and all of the staff at the Watercress Line for all their help and enthusiasm in our work experience visits.
