Headteacher’s Comment – January 2018

Dear Parents and Carers

The beginning of 2018 has arrived and it goes without saying that Osborne School celebrated Christmas in style. Before I comment on our brilliant first term, I just wanted to say thank you for all your continued support. Without this, and your commitment to what we do, the pupils certainly would not be benefiting as they are, so thank you.

We crammed a lot in last term with Shakespeare School Festival, the Christmas production of ‘Hogwarts’, various curriculum days, visits from the Army and of course the general day to day learning within the classroom which has certainly not been mundane: Year 8 learning about the Victorians and linking this to the Christmas Tree Competition, Year 9 learning about cells and genetics and why they have the colour hair and eyes that they have, Year 7 have settled extremely well, quickly learning the routines and systems of a secondary school and fully embracing the school ethos and all that it offers. Year 10 have been working hard on their accreditation and starting to build their portfolios of work for the end of Year 11 and Year 11 have been busy planning for the future and making decisions about what they would like to do when they leave school.

Osborne College, as always, have been developing their independence skills, learning about the big wide world, what is out there for them and how they can access it to the best of their ability. This is only a very small snippet of what went on last term so do check out the school website to get further information about all the progress your young person has made over the year.

Please also continually check the website for all key dates and information as this is where the most up-to-date information is published www.osborneschoolwinchester.com

There is one important date change that I would like to draw your attention to though. The Inset Day schedule for 12th of March has been cancelled and we will instead have one on Friday 9 February 2018 just before we break up for the Spring Half Term holiday.

You will be pleased to hear that all the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas activities – Christmas dinner on Tuesday, Celebration Assembly and presents from Santa (FOS) on the Thursday and of course the all-important Christmas Tree Competition. Congratulations to everyone, the trees were amazing.

That just leaves me to say have a fantastic New Year and I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Kind regards

Sonia O’Donnell, Headteacher
