County Cricket Champions
On Monday 1st July Osborne School took 2 teams, consisting of 18 pupils from Years 7, 8 and 9, to the county cricket competition at St Cross Cricket Club. The event was organised by Rick Kellaway from Hampshire Community Cricket. Prior to the event coaches visited Osborne School to prepare the pupils for the competition, helping them improve their technique and learn the rules.
The competition consisted of 11 teams from 9 different schools. The morning started with a round robin format. Both Osborne teams started well winning their first games. Osborne A defeated Samuel Cody School and Osborne B narrowly beat Grateley House School. At the end of the Round Robin stage Osborne B came second in their group and Osborne A came first.
Osborne A progressed to the semi-finals where they beat Baycroft to set up a final with last years winners Dove House School from Basingstoke. In an excellent final Osborne won by the narrowest of margins. Both teams scored 254 runs but Osborne won having only lost 1 wicket to Dove House’s 2. All pupils from Osborne conducted themselves brilliantly and played some excellent cricket. We are all looking forward to defending our title next year.
