Coronavirus Update

Dear Parents and Carers,

As the official advice about how we should all behave continues to change we are keen to continue to provide as much education as we can for as long as we can.

Despite a number of pupils being absent, I am pleased to say that we have had no confirmed cases of the virus within the school community.  We do though have a large number of staff self-isolating because either they or members of their immediate family are in one of the vulnerable groups.

I have therefore, with regret, made the difficult decision to close some classes.  Starting on Thursday 19 March the classes closing are:

  • 8BR
  • 7HH/LT
  • Class ET
  • 10GJ
  • 10NL
  • 16AM
  • 16AR
  • 16ES
  • 16LW
  • 16OB

This will be for the foreseeable future and we will be reviewing the situation for remaining classes on a daily basis. Information will be posted on the Hampshire County Council School’s Closure list and we will keep parents updated via text message/email and the school website.

We have set up an online learning hub for pupils (and parents) to access from home.  This is available through the school website osborneschoolwinchester.com/osborne-school-learning-hub/ . The password for the hub is available by emailing admin@osborne.hants.sch.uk and a text message will go out shortly with the password. Please keep checking back to the hub as we aim to update this throughout this time.  For those pupils who are preparing for exams this year, we will be preparing additional specific guidance.

I would like to remind you that any pupil who shows new symptoms, as detailed in government guidelines, should now be kept at home for two school weeks.  I also understand that this applies to all other members of the family.  Please be reassured that no-one will be penalised for absence as a result of COVID-19.

I hope that you all remain safe and well at what are very challenging times and, as always, please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any help or support.

Yours sincerely

Sonia White, Headteacher
