Poetry by Heart Assembly – March 2020

Earlier in March, we were very lucky to have been able to hold a Poetry by Heart assembly which was attended by a local poet, Kathryn Bevis. Kathryn opened the assembly and talked about what makes a good poem and recital and she recited for us, one of her own poems. This was followed by a number of imaginative and creative recitations and performances of a range of poems from the contemporary to previous centuries and included works from poets such as William Blake and  Shakespeare to Benjamin Zephaniah.

Some pupils bravely recited as individuals, with some notable recitations by heart from Sophia Grove and Jonathan Mitchell from Key stage 3; Lauren Barton and Zak Marklew from Key Stage 4 (Oskings) and Jakob King from Osborne College.

There were also many choral performances from classes across the school.
It was truly impressive the way in which each pupil, regardless of their experience or previous interest engaged in the project and tackled some really quite challenging works. It is important I mention too, the maturity and excellent attitudes demonstrated throughout the assembly as everyone listened attentively and supported one another. It was a fantastic morning and the pupils did themselves proud.

Well done everyone!
