Osborne School Online Fete 2020 – £1652 raised!

This year we took our fete online due to the Coronavirus outbreak. We were unsure how it would work out and whether it would take off but, wow, how pleasantly surprised we were!

Monday started off with Guess the number of Marshmallows in the Jar provided by Sarah Criddle. Followed by Joseph (Osborne college) quiz night in the evening. This was attended by 10 teams and was played out in great spirits. Very well presented by Joseph.

Tuesday was the first of three consecutive competition days. Today brought us Lockdown Bake Off. Some amazing culinary skills were on display and plenty of cake pictures were sent in to be judged. A tough job for Michelle Cresswell, especially as she couldn’t taste any of the entries. Matthew (Year 11) was our lucky winner.

Wednesday was Pet Show day. We were swamped with entries once again. Pictures of pets of all shapes sizes and species were sent in to be judged by teacher Gillian James. A very tough decision once more but the lucky winner was Rufus owned by Becky Ings. We also had Gues the length of Basil the Dachshund. He is Cindy Matthews’ dog and we had to guess using a few pictures from all angles. He caught us all out and was 11cm longer than anyone thought he was.

Thursday it was over to the dressing up box for fancy dress day. A good selection of entries meant another difficult decision for joint judges Sarah Criddle and Hannah Corrall.

In the evening we had bingo presented by Samy (Osborne College) and mum. 9 players taking part we played two games. These were won by Sonia White and Barry Barnett. No cheating honestly!!!!

Friday was our big day. Osbornes Got Talent. We had many videos sent to us showing just how talented our students and staff are. The decision to decide the winner fell to Sonia who awarded Matthew Buckett first prize for his amazing piano playing.

Many other events happened on Friday:

1.30 School Disco with DJ Barry
3.00 Drum Workshop with Boyd
7.00 Preshow Warm up with Tom Vamos
7.30 Main Event Ben Dlugokecki LIVE from his front garden on his guitar!!!
8.30 After Party with DJ Barry
We also had a raffle running all week organised by Jennii Budd and one of our LSAs sold DVDs outside her house!!!

As the evening ended we looked at the total and we had reached £1530. Ben collected £75 in his guitar case from his neighbours who came out to enjoy the show (socially distanced of course), which when added along with a couple of later donations overnight we ended up raising a massive total of £1652, we set out to raise £600!!!!

Donations can still be made at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/fostival

I would like to send a massive thank you to everyone that got involved by sending in entries, bought numbers in the raffle and, of course, donated. The whole week went so much better than, I feel, anyone expected. Well done to all students, staff, and parents. You are all amazing. Take care stay safe and hopefully see you all soon.

Barry Barnett, Chairman of FOS
