Sonia’s News – 11th July 2016

SoniaI simply can’t believe it’s that time of year already – the summer holidays!

We have had the busiest and most productive year in Osborne School’s history. The pupils have worked tirelessly producing excellent work, working hard to improve their targets; and taking part in numerous shows and learning opportunities.

So much has been achieved over the last 3 months – I’ve tried to summarise some of the events below which occured while pupils were still engaged with their learning and targets. All I can say is thank you to the pupils for working so hard, thank you to the staff for their dedication and to all the families/carers for their support over the year.

Performances

Pupils in KS4 were selected to perform at the Bournemouth international Centre by the Rotary Club at their annual general meeting. The pupils performed ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ to hundreds of people on a huge stage. They were the only school out of hundreds to be selected.

Wizard of Os 063

The whole school took part in the preparation and performance of our summer show ‘Wizard of Os’. Pupils and staff excelled themselves with this incredible production all put together in one week! Everyone was involved and the outcome was simply amazing. Well done Osborne!

Sporting achievement

IMG_2813Pupils were in full force a couple of weeks ago at our Sports Day. Each class took part in a series of challenges and sporting events including ball skills, boccia and golf. In the afternoon all the pupils took part in an engaging set of races watched by the whole school and visitors. The day ended with a staff run where the organiser, Mr Lang, won – but only just! A very special day enjoyed by all. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the families that came along and enjoyed the day too.

With our football team winning the county finals, the pupils taking part in table cricket and the KS4 cricket tournament this week its been a fantastic year for Osborne School sport.

Work Experience

This years Year 11 work experience was a fantastic opportunity for pupils to engage in the world of employment. There were visits to the Watercress Line, St Marys Stadium, Eastleigh Railworks and some pupils had their own work placements. We had visits from a local tree surgeon, the british transport police, the fire brigade and an amazing visit from the Hampshire Air Ambulance who landed their helicopter on the field. See the video below! Congratulations to Heidi Hack for organising such memorable experiences for our young people.

Rubiks Cube

IMG_9507Rubiks cube continue to dazzle audiences and enjoy themselves. They had the time of their lives playing the Portsmouth Summer Show performing at same festival as Peter Andre and Scouting for Girls.

In June they helped Shepherds Down raise some money at their summer fayre by playing a 30-minute set of songs, they also played our very own fayre!

DSC_0052Rubiks then performed at the regional festival for Music for Youth – securing their place at the National Festival in Birmingham.  The band took a 3-hour road trip to play the Birmingham Sympony Orchestra Centre and recieved a nomination to have an experienced musician to come and work with the pupils on a performance. Well done Rubiks Cube, they just keep going!

Residential Trip to Wales

Now an annual event, this incredible 5-day opportunity for our young people was organised for our KS4 pupils. The Wales trip enables our pupils to learn independence skills, team building skills and problem solving skills. Everyone had a fantastic time and you can see from the pictures the fantastic time had by all!

Goodbyes

The leavers assembly and prom were both moving and spectacular events. We said goodbye to some of our year 11 and Post-16 pupils. The theme of the prom was “A Night at the Movies” with popcorn, hotdogs and a disco.
